Perito Moreno Glacier, Argentina

The spectacular Perito Moreno Glacier in Argentina is a must on a trip to Patagonia. The glacier is over 5 km wide, has a total depth of 170 meters and an average of 74 meters above sea level. The glacier is one of the few growing glaciers in the world. Is partly in Chile and partly in Argentina. The glaciers ends in the big lake of Lago Argentina.
This area that is the 3rd biggest glacier area in the world is most easily reached by flight to El Calafate or long distance busses. You can visit the glacier in a few different ways. There is a boat tour that takes you up close to the ice, there is a walkway for an overview but I prefer the trekking tours that are available were you can actually walk on the ice. There is a short 2 hour tour and a longer for 5 hours. They have all the equipment that you need!
Enjoy Patagonia that is best in November when the flowers are blooming!

Meiji Jingu - Meiji Shrine in Tokyo

When you think about Tokyo your first thing that comes to you mind might not be green parks right down town.
The Meiji Jingu or Meiji Shrine is situated at Meiji Garden and is a shrine dedicated to the Emperor Meiji and his wife Shoken. They passed away 1912 and 1914 and the people of Japan decided they needed a place of enshrinement for them. The emperor that opened up Japan to the rest of the world. People donated over 100.000 trees that is now this green lung of Tokyo. The shrine itself is in the middle of the "forrest" and it here it is so calm with bird singing and it is hard to believe that you are in a metropolis area.
If you can go here on a lucky day according to the Japanese calendar or at a national holiday you will see a lot of weddings and religious ceremonies as on this picture.
In June the blooming Iris garden is not to be missed!
The Meiji Jingu is open every day from sunrise to sunset and the best way to get there is to get of at Harajuku station on Yamanote Line with JR.

A Sunday in Rio de Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro
If you are lucky to be in Rio de Janeiro on a Sunday the place to be is on or by the beach. The roads by the famous beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema during the weekdays are full of cars. But on Sunday the cars are not allowed to drive there and then it is the time for the people of the city to use the roads to other things. Just take a long walk,  do some jogging, use your longboard or rollerblades, walk your dog or work out at one of the many gyms by the beach. This is the way to feel like a real carioca (people of Rio)!
